Abstract

Hypertension remains a major public health problem due to its increasing prevalence and risk of cardiovascular complications. Limited public awareness regarding healthy lifestyles and blood pressure control contributes to the persistence of hypertension cases in the community. This community service activity aimed to improve public knowledge regarding hypertension management and the utilization of herbal combination jamu as complementary therapy. The activity was conducted in Cemani Village, Sukoharjo Regency, through interactive health education, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and practical demonstrations of herbal jamu preparation. Knowledge improvement was evaluated using a one-group pretest-posttest approach and analyzed using the Paired Sample T-Test. The results demonstrated a significant increase in participants’ knowledge, with the average score improving from 89.00 in the pretest to 98.84 in the posttest (p < 0.05). Participants also expressed high satisfaction toward the implementation of the activity. The findings indicate that educational interventions combined with practical training effectively improved community understanding regarding the utilization of herbal medicine as complementary therapy for hypertension management.
