HEALTH EDUCATION ABOUT CHEST X-RAYS AND PREVENTION OF RESPIRATORY DISEASES AMONG STUDENTS

This community service activity aims to improve students’ knowledge regarding the importance of thoracic radiographic examination as an early detection effort for respiratory diseases caused by unhealthy lifestyles. The background of this activity is based on the increasing risk of respiratory system disorders associated with unhealthy behaviors such as smoking, physical inactivity, and exposure to unhealthy environmental conditions, making early detection an important preventive strategy. The method used in this activity was health education through counseling, which included educational sessions on thoracic examination and evaluation using pre-test and post-test instruments involving 15 students of STIKOM Yos Sudarso Purwokerto on December 20, 2025. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants’ knowledge, indicated by an improvement in the average score from 66.67 in the pre-test to 79.29 in the post-test. This activity contributed to enhancing students’ understanding and awareness regarding the importance of thoracic examination as an effort to prevent and detect respiratory diseases at an early stage. Therefore, it can be concluded that health education on thoracic radiographic examination was effective in increasing students’ knowledge. These findings indicate that similar educational programs have the potential to support broader preventive health promotion efforts among young adults.
