Abstract

The effectiveness of communication is a very important thing in health services because it is one of the factors that can affect the level of patient satisfaction. In conventional contrast examination, effective communication is needed to explain various procedures, benefits, risks, and preparation for the examination. Based on a survey of 20 patients and their families through interviews at the Radiology Installation of Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province, there were 13 of them who complained about dissatisfaction with the communication made by radiology officers, because they felt that they did not understand the instructions and explanations given, the explanation was less structured, and there were still components that were not explained before the examination and there was still a language that was difficult for the patient to understand. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of radiographers' communication on the level of satisfaction of conventional contrast examination patients at the Radiology Installation of RSUD Arifin Achmad Riau Province. This research is a kind of descriptive quantitative research using the survey method. The data in this study were obtained from the results of a survey using a questionnaire distributed to 20 respondents, namely patients or their families who performed conventional contrast examinations at the Radiology Installation of Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province. Then the data from the questionnaire results were processed using the Index % formula to determine the level of satisfaction. The research was conducted in May-June 2021. The effectiveness of communication is influenced by several factors, namely respect, empathy, audible, clarity, and humility. In this study, the results of each question indicator showed that respect got a presentation of 58% with the quite satisfied category, the empathy indicator got a presentation of 71% with the satisfied category, the audible indicator got a presentation of 78% in the satisfied category, the clarity indicator got a presentation of 75% in the satisfied category, and the humble indicator got a presentation of 75% in the satisfied category. While the lowest presentation is found in the respect indicator, which is 58% in the quite satisfied category, and the highest presentation is in the audible indicator, 78% in the satisfied category. The effectiveness of radiographer communication on the level of satisfaction in conventional contrast examination patients at the Radiology Installation of RSUD Arifin Achmad Riau Province, received a satisfaction level presentation of 71% so that the interpretation was categorized as satisfied.
